19 Tallest WNBA Players of All Time (2026 Verified List)

Margo Dydek is the tallest WNBA player in league history at 7'2" (218 cm), and no one has come closer than three inches since she played her last game in 2008. The tallest player on a WNBA roster right now, in the 2026 season, is New York Liberty center Han Xu at 6'11" (211 cm).

Most lists on this topic stop at 10 or 14 names and quietly mix retired players in with active ones. We did it differently. This list covers every player we could verify at 6'7" or taller — 19 in the main table, plus a 6'6" group at the end — with every height checked against Basketball-Reference or WNBA.com rather than copied from another list. Where sources disagreed, we say which one we followed. Active players get their own section, because "tallest ever" and "tallest right now" are two different questions.

How We Ranked This List

Every height above is a listed height from an official roster, not an independent measurement. The league publishes no barefoot-versus-shoes standard, heights are rounded to whole inches, and players are often measured once as rookies and never again. Fans argue about it constantly — one side says listings run two to three inches high across all of women's basketball, the other points out that some players deflate their height so they don't get slotted at center.

We used roster listings anyway, because they are the only figures applied consistently to every player. But we picked carefully when sources fought. Three cases were worth resolving:

Han Xu is 6'11", not 6'10". Guinness World Records and Google's AI summary both list her at 6'10" and rank her behind or level with Bernadett Határ. WNBA.com's own player page and Basketball-Reference both say 6-11. We went with the league.

Liz Cambage is 6'8", not 6'9". Guinness lists her at 6'9", tied with Brittney Griner. Basketball-Reference has her at 6-8 for her entire career, which is also what every other major list uses.

Lindsay Taylor is 6'8", not 6'11". Several roundups have circulated her as a near-7-footer. Her Basketball-Reference page lists 6-8, 203 cm. She played five WNBA games, all for Phoenix in 2004.

Three players other lists include at 6'7" — Alison Bales, Gillian Goring and Zane Tamane — are left out of the main table because we could not confirm their listings against a primary source. They appear in the season-by-season table below where the record calls for them.

The Four Tallest Players in WNBA History

The top of this list has barely moved in almost thirty years. Only four players have ever been listed at 6'9" or taller.

Margo Dydek

Margo Dydek stood 7'2" (218 cm) — still the only player ever to appear in a WNBA game at over seven feet. Poland's Małgorzata Dydek went first overall to the Utah Starzz in the 1998 draft and played 323 games across eleven seasons for Utah, San Antonio, Connecticut and Los Angeles.

She finished with 877 blocked shots, which stood as the league record for years. Griner passed her in the 2020s, so Dydek now sits second on the career blocks list — a correction most articles about her still haven't made. Guinness World Records did not formally certify her as the tallest WNBA player until 24 July 2020, more than nine years after she died in 2011 at age 37.

Han Xu

Han Xu is listed at 6'11" (211 cm), making her the tallest player in the league in 2026 and the second-tallest in WNBA history. The New York Liberty took her 14th overall in the 2019 draft out of China, and she has had one of the more stop-start careers here: she played as a rookie in 2019, missed the next two seasons, returned for 2022 and 2023, spent two more years out of the league, then came back to New York for 2026.

Her game is nothing like Dydek's or Griner's. She is a modern big who steps out and shoots rather than a pure rim deterrent, which is part of why she has never locked down heavy minutes.

Bernadett Határ

Bernadett Határ is listed at 6'10" (208 cm) and is the answer to "who is the third tallest WNBA player." The Hungarian center is also the clearest example of how little height guarantees: across two stints — seven games with the Indiana Fever in 2021 and six with the Connecticut Sun in 2023 — she has played 13 WNBA games total, with a knee injury costing her all of 2022. Most tallest-player lists skip her outright, which is exactly why she belongs here.

Brittney Griner

Brittney Griner is listed at 6'9" (206 cm) and is the tallest American-born player in WNBA history. Phoenix took her first overall in 2013, and she has been the league's defining rim protector ever since — she now holds the career blocks record at 891, having passed Dydek's 877.

Note her team if you're checking this against an older article: Griner spent eleven seasons in Phoenix, played 2025 for the Atlanta Dream, and is with the Connecticut Sun in 2026. Several lists still have her in a Mercury jersey.

The 6'8" Club: Seven Players Tied for Fifth

Seven players share the 6'8" (203 cm) mark, and their careers range from 5 games to 167.

Razija Brčaninović (Bosnia and Herzegovina) was allocated to the Detroit Shock in January 1998 and started all 30 games she played, averaging 9.1 points. She never played another WNBA season.

Haixia Zheng (China) was the tallest player in the WNBA's inaugural 1997 season, a year before Dydek arrived. The Los Angeles Sparks took her 16th overall in the 1997 Elite Draft, and she played 34 games while shooting 61.9% from the field.

Maria Stepanova (Russia) went eighth overall to Phoenix in 1998 and played 114 games for the Mercury — a bigger name in Europe than she ever was in the W.

Olga Firsova (Ukraine) was drafted 13th overall by the New York Liberty in 2000 and appeared in nine games, averaging just over two minutes each.

Lindsay Taylor (USA) was taken 26th overall by Houston in 2004 and played five games for Phoenix that summer. She is the player most often misreported on lists like this one.

Katie Mattera (USA) had the most durable career of the group: 150 games for San Antonio, Detroit, Atlanta and Chicago after Connecticut took her eighth overall in 2005. She was the tallest player in the league in 2009, the year after Dydek retired.

Liz Cambage (Australia) is the best player at this height by a wide margin — a No. 2 overall pick in 2011, a four-time All-Star, and the runner-up for MVP in 2018, when she averaged 23.0 points a game for Dallas. Her listed height has been argued over by fans for years, with Guinness still carrying her a full inch taller than the league does.

The 6'7" Group: Eight More Players

Below 6'8", the list stops being a curiosity and starts looking like an ordinary center rotation. Eight players are listed at 6'7" (201 cm), and four of them were on WNBA rosters in 2026.

Kara Wolters is the only WNBA champion in this group, winning with the Houston Comets in 1999 before moving on to Indiana and Sacramento for 86 career games. Jennifer Hamson, a Los Angeles Sparks pick in 2014, played 37. Imani McGee-Stafford went 10th overall to Chicago in 2016 and spent four seasons with the Sky, Dream and Wings.

Kalani Brown has played for four franchises since going seventh overall in 2019, with her best year in Dallas in 2023. Teaira McCowan, the third pick that same year, has been the most productive: three seasons in Indiana, four in Dallas, then Minnesota. Li Yueru debuted for Chicago in 2022 and later played for the Sparks.

The two youngest are the interesting ones. Kamilla Cardoso went third overall to Chicago in 2024 and is now in her third season. Lauren Betts was the fourth overall pick in the 2026 draft by the Washington Mystics — she is a rookie this season, which is why no other tallest-player list has her yet.

How the Title Has Changed Hands Since 1997

Here is the part nobody else does: who was actually the tallest player on a WNBA roster in each season. The title has changed hands twelve times in thirty seasons, and it dropped as low as 6'7" twice.

The 2009–2012 stretch is the flattest the league has ever been. For four straight seasons after Dydek retired, nobody on a WNBA roster was taller than 6'8", and in two of those years the tallest player in the entire league was 6'7".

Height like this is also the hardest thing to capture on film. A 6'11" center changes what happens at the rim in ways a phone propped on a bleacher never shows, which is why club and high school programs filming their own games increasingly use an auto-tracking basketball camera that follows the ball instead of holding a fixed wide shot.
