What can be measured is reach. We use total social media followers as the primary ranking because it is counted the same way for every club, published by an independent research institute, and updated annually. It is not perfect: followers skew toward younger, digitally active audiences, and a club can buy attention through a single superstar signing.

So we cross-check against two independent measures. Revenue shows commercial pull, which follows real spending rather than free clicks. Polling shows what people in a given country actually say when asked. Where these three disagree, we say so, because the disagreement is often the most interesting part of the story.
